How do I remove the rear brake drum of a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. I want to change brake shoes on the rear.

  • Remove the tire and wheel assembly. graphic
  • Remove the lock ring and the caulking nut from the spindle.graphic
  • Pull the drum straight off the spindle. The 2 inner wheel bearing races are not secured inside the drum by a ring. Remove the drum from the spindle.

    I have tried that but the drum hangs on the brake shoe. I need to know how to loosen the brake shoe so it doesn't hit the brake drum.

    On the back of the drum, there should be a black rubber stopper. Remove this stopper and this will give you access to the adjuster. Spin the adjuster with a small flat tool downwards to release the closeness of the shoe to the drum.
