2003 Chevy: roll..I have a manual window crank..cables

This answer was rated:

My window will not roll up or down in my 2003 Chevy Silverado. I have a manual window crank. It seems like something is binding up in the cables. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to Just, Super mechanic here. About your vehicle.

The cables sometimes get all jammed up in the regulators. What I do is replace the window regulator when they do.

Window Regulator Replacement - Front Door

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the window glass.
  2. Remove the trim panel.
  3. Remove the water deflector.
  4. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the window to the regulator

  1. Remove the bolts from the window regulator.
  2. Remove the window regulator assembly from the door by folding both sides together.

Installation Procedure

  • Install the regulator to the door. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
  • Install the bolts to the window regulator. Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  • Align the window glass to the regulator.
  • Install the bolts that hold the window to the regulator. Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  • Install the water deflector.
  • Install the trim panel.
  • Lower the window. Inspect the operation.

How do you raise the window? It will not roll up or down.
What I do in that case is take the regulator loose and then get the window to where I can get to the bolts to unbolt it from the regulator.

How do you secure the window so that it does not come back down while you are replacing the regulator?

They actually have a suction cup tool for that, but I normally use some masking tape over the top of the door frame to hold the window up.
