I Have a 1997 K1500, how do determine the gear ratio if I know I have an 8.25 ring gear.

Jack the rear axle up. Put the trans in neutral. Hold, have someone else hold, or block 1 wheel from turning (unless it's a posi-trac). Mark the driveshaft with tape or bright crayon. Mark the tire at the bottom. Count how many times it takes the driveshaft turns in relation to the wheel turning 1 revolution. It should be about 3 3/4 turns (3:73). maybe a 3:42 (a bit less than 3 1/2 turns).
