How do you change a thermostat on a 1997 lumina 3.1

1. Partially drain the cooling system.
2. Carefully remove the throttle body air inlet duct.
3. Remove the AIR pipe.
4. Use the J 38185 in order reposition the hose clamp at the thermostat housing.
5. Disconnect the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
6. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
7. Remove the thermostat housing and gasket.

8. Remove the thermostat.
9. Clean the mating surfaces.




1. Install the thermostat.
2. Install the thermostat housing and the gasket to the intake manifold.
3. Install the thermostat housing bolts.
Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb fi).
4. Install the AIR pipe.
5. Connect the radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
6. Use the Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) in order reposition and install the hose clamp at the thermostat housing.
7. Carefully install the throttle body air inlet duct.
8. Fill the cooling system.
9. Inspect the system for leaks.
