2000 Monte Carlo SS, 3.8 V6. I have the GM repair manuals

This answer was rated:

2000 Monte Carlo SS, 3.8 V6. I have the GM repair manuals for this car and my question is regard to the coil packs and the ignition control module. The sequence of the coil mounted on the module in the car (starting from the most rearward) is Pack 1-6/3, Pack 2-2/5, Pack 3-4/1. The figure in the manual showes 2/5, 6/3, 4/1 (which is the 1st and middle pack reversed). The Haynes manual shows an actual picture that agrees with the shop manual. My question is: is the mounting relationship between the coil packs to the control module interchangable? Also, could you provide a brief description of the symptoms of detonation/spark knock?
