1984 chevy: four wheel drive..catalytic to be inspected

My son has a 1984 chevy four wheel drive pickup truck it did have a catalytic convertor on it when we purchased it does it need one to be inspected

Depending on the laws in your state, yes it will probably have to have a converter installed to pass inspection, especially if you have emissions inspection. If you dont have emissons inspection then if they dont look too close you may get by. But normally the vehicle has to have what it came with originally.
