How do I fix Steering wheel free play in my 2000 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4X4

First you must find out exactly where the play is coming from.Have someone move the steering back & forth(just using the slack) & get under to see where the movement stops.If it is in the gear box there is an adjustment(pre load on pitman shaft) on top.Loosen the lock nut & screw down the threaded shaft.Usually a half turn or so will do it.if you get it too tight the gear will bind.If your problem is elsewhere look along the steering linkage until you see the movement stop.This will be a tie rod end,center relay rod,pitman arm or idler arm.
