2003 chevy venture: serpentine belt..Whrn I loosen thr nut..tension

I am trying to change my serpentine belt on a 2003 chevy venture. Whrn I loosen thr nut on the tension arm, it does't release the tension, and I am afraid to loosen the nut to far and have the tension arm come off. What is the proper way to loosen the arm to remove the belt?

At the tensioner pulley, there will either be a bolt or more likely a square hole to place ratchet in. Rotate it counterclockwise. The bolt you are loosening is most likely the bolt that holds tensioner to engine.

Eric, thank you for your answer. When I went out my vehicle, I realized that I wasn't sure what type or size ratchet to put in the square hole.

I believe it is an 1/2" ratchet. You may have to use a breaker bar to get leverage if the tensioner has good tension on it.
