1996 chevy cavalier: the ets light comes..disconnecting battery

This answer was rated:

I have a 1996 chevy cavalier the ets light comes on saying that it is off. I tried disconnecting battery it went for about a half a day then came back on. What could be the problem is there a sensor in the transmission.
Hello and welcome. Do you also have a check engine or abs light on? Is the car running ok?

Reply to Joel's Post: Yes the engine light is on too. The car runs fine
OK. Thanks. The ETS OFF light will come for several reason. Most often it is because of the check engine light. When the powertrain computer (pcm) sees a problem in one of the systems, it will set an engine light, and also turn off traction control. Depending on the pcm system that has a problem, the ETS light will come on because the traction system will not function properly without certain info that is supplied by the pcm. So what needs to be done is to have the pcm scanned for codes. Most large national parts store chains will do this free of charge. Then engine light needs to be fixed first, then the codes cleared, then the ETS light will go off.

Reply to Joel's Post: can i get this car emission tested with this engine light on?
Yes you have a problem with the engine controls somewhere. No, you will not be able to get the emmisions test, it will fail with the engine light on.
