2003 chevy cavalier: speedometer stopped working

Customer Question

2003 chevy cavalier transmission is not shifting properly(holds in gear too long before shifting) and the speedometer stopped working, both at the same time. Code 0502 came up. If this is a sensor where is it located?

HiCustomer Thank you for asking your question on Just Answer.

I assume this is an automatic transmission, but I just want to make sure. Just let me know if it is not.

This is the code for the Vehicle Speed Sensor or Automatic Transmission Output shaft Speed Sensor (AT OSS), which is mounted to the end of the transmission. It feeds its signal to the Powertrain Control Module, which controls the shifting AND drives the signal for the speedometer.

So this would be the prime suspect for the bad shifting and the speedometer not working.
