Hello, JACustomer. My name isCustomerand I have nearly 20 years of experience in Veterinary Medicine. My professional focus includes providing care for cats, dogs and exotic animals. I’m here to help.
Be advised that this is an information-only website and we cannot legally prescribe for any animals.
Give me just a few minutes to type and reply. I’ll be right back.
Also, please be aware that I am not currently available for a phone call. You may see a popup on your end of the chat that offers a call. If you wish to have a call, you can accept this option but be aware that I cannot offer a call at this time.
I am very sorry to hear that your companions potentially ingested some of the residue from the Feliway diffuser. Generally speaking, small amounts are not considered to be toxic and may only result in nausea, vomiting or diarrhea if any contact occurs. However, larger volumes may cause more severe symptoms necessitating hospitalization. Death is rare, but the MSDS sheet for this product does warn of the potential.
Since we don't know for sure if either cat ingested the fluid, I would simply observe. I would expect to see symptoms if either of them have ingested enough to cause them issues. Symptoms you might see includes lethargy, drooling, not wanting to make contact with their humans, vomiting, diarrhea, GI pain, etc. If you see these symptoms or others, I'd head to the ER for care.
If in the USA, you can find ER vets open in your area here: https://www.petflight.com/vet_clinics Be sure to call before heading in to ensure that they can accommodate you and your companion.
Also, just in case finances might be a concern and limit your ability to obtain care for your companion at this time, please visit this link where I have comprised nearly 30 links to help with financial aid, financing and fundraising: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o3mxuiqvbt8drjk/JAFinancialAid.docx?dl=0
I would expect so, so long as no symptoms have occurred.
I do want to make sure that we will both be leaving this interaction feeling like we’ve addressed your concern effectively. Would you say that you are comfortable with the next steps we’ve established together? If not, please let me know how I can best assist you. Our chat does not end until you’re completely done asking questions on this topic.
I'd use a soft wash cloth, a drop of dawn and warm water. Make the cloth soapy and frothy, wipe down your chargers (unplug them, of course) and allow to air dry. This should clean off any residue and the dawn is not toxic should the cats come in contact with it.
You’re welcome. I will also check in with you tomorrow to see how things are progressing and offer any additional support that might be needed. If you need more help before then don't hesitate to respond back. I'll be working periodically today and will get back to you as soon as I can.
Hello again, JACustomer. This is a courtesy message. I’m just dropping in to see how things are going and to see if you have any questions that have developed. I’m just a message away if you need any additional support.
