Customer: My female cat about 9-10 months old was in heat while I was on vacation. Found this out from a friend who would help watch them. I asked to separate my male cat and female cat until we got back since they are not spayed/neutered yet. My female cat is now leaving light bloody spots around and i checked that its coming from her uterus. Theres also a tiny red thing that comes and goes out of her uterus as well. I’m afraid its something serious.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long has the cat been in heat?
Customer: Probably about the time we were gone so 1 week or 2
JA: Does the cat ever go outside? Is she taking any medications?
Customer: no medication, and shes indoor
JA: And what's the cat's name and age?
Customer: Pito and about 10months
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: Nothing else

Unless it's been over 60 days since Pito was in heat, I would be very concerned about the possibility of this being a uterine infection. This is something that can happen to female kitties who are intact, and it tends to happen shortly after a heat cycle.

This can be a life-threatening issue in female cats, so when we see blood coming from the vaginal area, we always want to get them into see a vet right away. The other possibility for these bloody spots is a urinary tract infection, which is NOT life-threatening, but it's always better to check for a potential uterine infection if you see bleeding in an intact female cat.

Cats do not bleed during their heat cycles like a dog or a human, so blood is always an indication of something wrong.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!
