Customer: She had laundry detergent spilled on her Monday night/Tuesday morning. Her breathing is clearly distressed. Tried calling animal poison control and they are having technical difficulties? Er vet said we need to reach them before we can make a visit
JA: I'll do all I can to help. What type of animal are we talking about?
Customer: Kitten approx 4m
JA: How much of the poison did the kitten ingest? Has she vomited?
Customer: We woke up Tuesday morning around 4:30. There were two piles of vomit. She has been eating and drinking but in the last hour has been open mouth breathing
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: No

Customer
Freija

Thank you so much. Are Freija's gums pink? Is there froth in her mouth?

Customer
Gums are pale, no froth

Okay, thank you so much. How fast is she breathing?

Customer
about 40 bpm
Customer
40-50

Thank you so much.

Does she have any other medical problems? Is she taking any medications?

How old is she?

Customer
4months or so. she has her first vet appointment in April. she has seemed otherwise healthy up until this point

Thank you for that information. Please give me a few minutes to type my recommendations.

Okay, I am back. the ingestion of laundry detergent can cause vomiting, diarrhea, retching, and froth accumulation in the back of the throat. In addition, I am worried about her breathing. Labored breathing in the cat is considered a medical emergency. Whether the detergent is causing this, or whether there is some other additional problem is difficult to know. Either way, I would recommend taking her for an examination, chest X-rays, and a check of her electrolytes and red blood cell count. I am so sorry.
