Hello, I’m Kristen and I will be your Veterinary Assistance today, and as always, it’s my pleasure to assist you today. I may ask for some preliminary information to help me determine the condition or symptoms.
I do not have the facility to make phone calls. You will be offered a call automatically by the system and if accepted, you will be transferred to another agent and this chat will end. You can chose to decline and continue on the chat
I need to clarify the following to help me understand further.
When a dog gets its shots against the common diseases it can happen that for a few days afterwards they can feel a little off colour and unwell.
The reason for this is a vaccine contains a very small amount of the actual disease which stimulates the dogs immune system into building antibodies against it.
This then prepares it for the future should it come into contact with the disease at a more serious level.
Common symptoms after a vaccine are:
Most of the symptoms you have desribed are normal typical reactions and should dissapate in a day or two but if he is vomiting and his fever is very bad, then it would be best to take him to the ER if you can.
If not, try to get his fever down using cold compresses and if you have some pepto, you can give him a dose to help him with the vomiting.
Making sure he gets plenty of fluids also.
Once he stops vomiting after the pepto you could give him a benadryl as it may ease the reaction symptoms for him until you are able to get him to the vet in the morning.
My apologies I believed Winnie was a dog not a cat.
The same advice does apply but dont give him any pepto for the vomiting as it does not agree with cats at all.
Again, I am so sorry for the confusion but with vaccines, the advice is the same for both cats and dogs
if you have any cerenia, ranitidine or famotidine at home these are safe medications for a cat to take for vomiting.
I hope Winnie is doing ok and feeling better now after his vaccines
I am closing off the chat now but if you need anything else, do let me know
I trust that everything has now been answered to your satisfaction. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to get back to me on JustAnswer. In the meantime, I wish you all the best.
