Hello, I’m Dr. ***** *****stein. I am a licensed veterinarian with over 36 years of practice. I am not your pet’s veterinarian and cannot examine your pet, so I cannot legally provide you with any specific veterinary medical advice such as diagnosis or prescribing medication. However, I can generally speak to help you understand resources that may help you, advise you to seek medical attention, and provide support. I’m so sorry you are having problems with Tazz. You must be very worried about your precious baby. I am sorry if you had to wait for help, but I just logged on.
Please allow me a few minutes to review your case.
How old is Tazz?
Is the volume of urine increased?
Is the litterbox wetter than normal?
Is there any blood in the urine?
Is he your only cat?
Tazz may have what is called feline lower urinary tract disorder. This syndrome is multifactorial and is triggered by: stress, diet, infection, or in some cases is unknown. It is commonly characterized by cats making frequent unproductive trips to the litter box and finding bloody urine in the sinks or bathtubs. I like to get a urine specimen and then treat symptomatically giving fluids, pain medication, and antibiotics if indicated. In cases with senior cats, I am concerned that there is an underlying cause that is contributing to the FLUTD. In these cases, I strongly encourage a visit to the veterinarian.
In male cats, they can actually obstruct which is a life-threatening medical emergency. If he blocks, urine will back up in his bladder leading to kidney failure and rupture. He needs to see his vet immediately. If he blocks, urine will back up in his bladder leading to kidney failure and rupture. He needs to see his vet immediately.
Does this plan seem reasonable?
Yes, because we want to make sure he is not blocked. Does that make sense?
Do you have any more questions or concerns for me today? I want to ensure that nothing requires clarification.
Unfortunately, there is no home care for this condition. Do you need help locating an ER?
Have I covered everything that concerns you to your satisfaction?
You can feed Tazz canned food only and lightly salt the food. This will encourage more water intake which will help flush the bladder.
It’s been my pleasure to provide assistance for you and Tazz today. I would appreciate being kept up today on his condition and would be happy to assist you should you have more questions or concerns.
