Customer: My Cat is excessively peeing I believe he has a UTI
JA: I'll do all I can to help. When did you notice this change in urination? Does the cat seem more hungry or thirsty than usual?
Customer: just yesterday I started to notice him using the bathroom for long periods of time. Today is when he started peeing outside his litter box. He’s not drinking much water but he is usually always a hungry boy.
JA: Does he also seem more tired than usual?
Customer: Yesterday he seemed more tired then usual but today he is a bit more energetic
JA: What's the cat's name?
Customer: Tazz
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: He is a little overweight but hasn’t had much past history with getting sick.

Hello, I’m Dr. ***** *****stein. I am a licensed veterinarian with over 36 years of practice. I am not your pet’s veterinarian and cannot examine your pet, so I cannot legally provide you with any specific veterinary medical advice such as diagnosis or prescribing medication. However, I can generally speak to help you understand resources that may help you, advise you to seek medical attention, and provide support. I’m so sorry you are having problems with Tazz. You must be very worried about your precious baby. I am sorry if you had to wait for help, but I just logged on.

Please allow me a few minutes to review your case.

Is the volume of urine increased?

Is the litterbox wetter than normal?

Customer
He is peeing more often but it’s a small amount every time

Is there any blood in the urine?

Customer
No, no blood in the urine

Is he your only cat?

Customer

Tazz may have what is called feline lower urinary tract disorder. This syndrome is multifactorial and is triggered by: stress, diet, infection, or in some cases is unknown. It is commonly characterized by cats making frequent unproductive trips to the litter box and finding bloody urine in the sinks or bathtubs. I like to get a urine specimen and then treat symptomatically giving fluids, pain medication, and antibiotics if indicated. In cases with senior cats, I am concerned that there is an underlying cause that is contributing to the FLUTD. In these cases, I strongly encourage a visit to the veterinarian.

In male cats, they can actually obstruct which is a life-threatening medical emergency. If he blocks, urine will back up in his bladder leading to kidney failure and rupture. He needs to see his vet immediately. If he blocks, urine will back up in his bladder leading to kidney failure and rupture. He needs to see his vet immediately.

Does this plan seem reasonable?

Customer
what your saying is I need to go see a vet immediately?

Yes, because we want to make sure he is not blocked.  Does that make sense?

Customer
it makes sensw

Do you have any more questions or concerns for me today? I want to ensure that nothing requires clarification.

Customer
Is there anything I can do to help ease him while I wait to get in with the Vet?

Unfortunately, there is no home care for this condition.  Do you need help locating an ER?

Have I covered everything that concerns you to your satisfaction?

Customer
No ER thank you
Customer
Hi

You can feed Tazz canned food only and lightly salt the food.  This will encourage more water intake which will help flush the bladder.

It’s been my pleasure to provide assistance for you and Tazz today. I would appreciate being kept up today on his condition and would be happy to assist you should you have more questions or concerns.

I hope I was able to answer your question. If you would like to ask me another question in the future, you can add me as a favorite Expert.
