I adopted a kitten yesterday evening and she’s ~two months old. This is my first time with a cat and I’m having trouble

Expert's Assistant chatimg
Customer: Hi! I adopted a kitten yesterday evening and she’s ~two months old. This is my first time with a cat and I’m having trouble getting her to eat and pee/poo. It’s been almost 24 hours and she hasn’t eaten (I’ve offered dried and wet food) and introduced her to litter box when we arrived and bring her to it after naps, etc. I’m wondering - is she still adjusting or should I contact a vet?
JA: Hi there. I'll do all I can to help. A lack of appetite can seem worrying. Does the kitten also seem more tired than usual?
Customer: She’s sleepy, yes
JA: Does the kitten seem to be in any pain?
Customer: no. She got microchipped yesterday so they said she’d be sore but not in pain
JA: What's the kitten's name?
Customer: Clementine
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: that’s all, the adoption center gave us little info and isn’t super responsive so i just wasn’t sure where else to ask. Thank you!

Hi its Dr Fayette

I hear you got a new kitten and shes not eating well

Customer
No she's not. I had dry food and tried to sprinkle grated Parmesan and she didn't bite. Also tried fancy feast but she wasn't eating. She's been drinking water but hasn't eaten anything since we got her (Last night). She also hasn't peed or pooped. I'm wondering if she's still adjusting to the new climate or if there's an issue

It could be adjustment but obviously we also need to be watching her

When you say new climate was she just shipped to you from another state?

Customer
Nope, picked her up from local animal shelter.

ok so just new environment

Is she sneezing coughing vomiting or diarrhea

Customer
None of that, she's been exploring but very sleepy as well

Ok then its probably safe to watch her for the next 24-48 hours

Im not worried about the not defecating or urinating because shes not taking much in

I would watch her for any other symptoms and continue to offer her food

you may also consider giving her food and closing the door to give her some space.  A new environment can be overwhelming to some cats

Customer
Okay, I'll definitely continue to do that. Thank you!!

Your welcome

Enjoy your new kitten
