I rescued him in...

I rescued him in November of last year. Almost starved and extremely thin. Abused through lack of care. Blood work showed very high liver values. I continued to care for him and he finally started to gain weight and feel better. I had him on homemade cooked cat food. I use a recipe from Alnutrin knowwhatyoufeed.com. He has been on a raw homemade food diet. Alternating chicken, Turkey, venison. He had been absolutely fine. Till this morning. Meowing, panting, lying down. Serms in distresd, discomfort, pain...i am so worried about him. My local vet is fully booked today and only made appt for tomorrow morning!! Hi liver values wete last checked a couple months ago, still high vut a little improved. I have him on a nilk thistle supplement from Petwellbeing. PLEASE CAN YOU OFFER ANY HELP, ADVICE, SUGGESTIONS?y

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Turkey?

Hus name is***** not turkey, thats what i sometimes mix in his raw, homemadw cat food.

Thank you for rescuing Handsome Charlie. I am sorry he is so ill today.

Is he eating? If you lift his lip to check his gums, are they pink in color or do they seem pale?

Can you take his temperature? Normal rectal temp is 101.5

He suddenly showed the symptoms I described....just this morning. He has been eating perfectly fine for months. He ate last night. Licked plate clean as always.,He is obviously unwell this morning. Cannot think of offering him food now. He is lying down and . Breathing very fast. I know his liver values were high when last checked but he has been eating well and as I mentioned, taking milk thistle supplement. I need to re check his liver values. Please God he is not going to die!!!! I have an appt for tomorrow morning. Nothing today.
Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

So he will not eat or drink today?

Are his gums pink or pale?

Can you take his temperature?

If your local vet is fully booked today, he must be open. I might consider showing up as a walkin, if he is this sick and you are this worried.

The fast breathing worries me; that is why I ask about his gums. If they are pale, he may need to be on oxygen.

Is he open mouth breathing, or nose breathing?

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

If he is open mouth breathing, or his gums are pale, he needs to get to a veterinarian right away.

If his temp is over 103, he should see a veterinarian today. I might consider being a "walkin" at your vet, or finding an emergency clinic that is open today. Where are you located?

I am very sorry but I can't make calls for the website; that offer did not come from me. I can only answer questions here.

What should I do? I am beside myself. Something seems seriously wrong. I may have to take him to my vet practice. My regular vet not there. It's emergency that costs like 200 $ before starting.
Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

I am sorry to be a broken record, but I can help you if you will answer my questions:

Is he drinking today?

If you lift his lip, are his gum pink or pale?

Can you take his temperature?

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

If you are this worried, I would take him to your vet if they are open, even without an appointment. Most clinics take walkins, if they are established clients.

If he won't eat or drink, if his gums look pale, if he has to mouth breathe rather than nose breathe, this is an emergency that should not wait until tomorrow.

Okay as I said, he is lying down, lethargic, not even standing up. Drooling... I dont understand why youre asking this question. How can I think of offering him any food or water as he is in this state? I have covered him with a blanket. He feels a little cool.
Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

The questions I am asking are if he is drinking, what his gums look like (this is very important!) and if he has a fever.

Knowing if he will take water, even in this state, is very important. I don't know if he will eat or drink unless you offer it to him and he refuses. I would try offering water, chicken broth, tuna juice. If he does not drink he will get dehydrated. If he won't drink anything, all the more reason to get him to a vet today.

It really will tell me a lot if you can tell me if his gums are pink, or pale.

Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

Since I can't examine him myself, I need you to be my hands and eyes, to help me do what I would do if he were in front of me. I would not assume he won't eat or drink until food and water is offered and refused.

Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

If you can't check his gums and tell me how they look, then take him to an emergency vet, or go to your vet and demand to be seen today, not tomorrow.

I had to bring Charlie in to vet as emergency. Very sadl to say I had to say goodbye to him. He had advanced liver cancer, a huge mass. It's so strange how he has been acting so well and Eating and drinking all these months. I rescued him 7 months ago from a very sad abuse situation. At least he had a lot of love and he was safe and ate like a king for those 7 months. Yesterday he was so happy, loving and purring and i loved on him a lot.
I will see him again one day, I do hope, on the other side.

I just saw your last note; I am sorry the website did not let me know sooner.

I am very sorry to hear he is gone. My sincere condolences. If he had a large liver tumor, there is nothing you could have done except give him the good life that you did by rescuing him.
