Hi there, he is...

Hi there, he is a 11 year old inside pet who we allow on the screened pool area for exercise and mind to chase lizards. We think he ate a frog not sure....I know he is suffering since my husband of 35 years has stage 4 cancer so they are both home each day while I work long hours to keep us afloat. He has been on the urinary track pet food since he was about 3, but the past week noticed he is in the litter box multi times in an hour and nothing but pee comes out not much on the stool. We can not afford a vet sadly with all the medical bills, so is there some home remedy I can try? He is not crying but is making a unknow noise occasionally and grooming his butt area

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if the cat will be able to digest that. What is the cat's name?

Charles

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Charles?

He love company, to be with you and spend much time with my husband who is in bed someday after cancer treatment...Charles cares

Purina One Urinary tract health formula

Just dry, or will he eat canned?

He has only been eating dry, no canned and gets lots of exercise in the screened pool area chasing and sometimes eating a lizard. I think he may have eaten a frog just can not be sure...

A normal frog won't be an issue for him. If it was a poisonous frog, he would be salivating like crazy.

The key to avoiding urinary tract issues is to get them drinking a lot of water so that their urine is not so concentrated- very dilute urine doesn't tend to settle out crystals, so they don't get into problems as much. An easy way to do that is to feed them all canned food. Will he eat canned food?

I can try, he loves the smell of tuna fish. He seems to be ok with the urine and drinks a lot of water. He was eating well till I came home today and noticed the bowl was pretty full from breakfast. Should I go get a can of food?

Yes. I would recommend the Royal Canin Urinary Formula. It works very well for preventing crystals etc. If he likes it, feed him 1 can per day. No dry needed.

Is that a brand I can get at the grocery store or a Pet Supply store. My husband stated he made unusual noises all day today, that is not normal, and the cleaning is butt is not normal so ....??

You should be able to get it at a pet supply store, or online. It's the unusual noises that make me think he has some crystals as they tend to be in and out of the litterbox a lot, and licking at their privates a lot due to the burning.

ok off to the store I go, ty for being avail after hours...

You're very welcome. If he does have crystals and will eat the canned food, it can actually dissolve the crystals, so hopefully will avert any problems.

I need a vet prescription to order....

That is so silly. I believe you should be able to get it at the pet store. I sell the veterinary version at my clinic, and it doesn't need a prescription because it is a maintenance food, and isn't going to hurt any cat even if they don't have a crystal problem.

found on Ebay should be here in 3 days....hope that is soon enough should I offer him some tuna fish tonight to help...I am worried...
I look forward to sharing our responses on FB

A little tuna isn't a bad thing, as long as he doesn't decide that is all he wants to eat. For tonight I would offer him some.
