I am not sure I would think this to be due to the kidney disease right away. IT is not common for kidney disease to cause diarrhea (usually the opposite--constipation).
Could he have eaten anything else that is new or unusual (a new food, a household plant, etc)? If so, then perhaps this is the culprit.
If he is acting well with regard to a normal appetite and good attitude, then you could safely monitor this into tomorrow. A bit of blood in the stool is okay (it simply indicates the colon is irritated). If all stool issues pass then I would assume he ate something that upset his system.
