I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. If this behavior repeats week after week, feline asthma becomes the most important consideration. This defines a syndrome triggered by allergic-specific activation of immune cells culminating in cough, wheeze, and/or respiratory distress, eosinophilic inflammation of airways - the eosinophil is one of the white blood cells, and structural pulmonary changes. Diagnosis is by elevated numbers of eosinophils in the peripheral blood and/or typical asthmatic changes in X-rays of the lungfields.

The main differential is feline herpesvirus (FHV-1) infection but this infection usually goes into remission within 1-3 weeks of the onset of clinical signs. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish. I'll be online for another hour but then offline for the rest of the weekend. I promise to reply as soon as I return if need be.
