All my cats are sneezing with really thick mucus coming up,

Customer Question
All my cats are...

All my cats are sneezing with really thick mucus coming up, what is going on?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What is your cat's name and age?

Taz he is 6yrs old took him to vet they gave him a 10 shot for upper resportatory infection still not helping now I notice my other cats are sneezing alot

Veterinarian's Assistant: There are all sorts of infections your cat can pick up. I'll have you talk to the Veterinarian who'll sort out what is wrong and help you decide what to do about it. Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about your cat?

No otherwise he has always been healthy, he wont eat or drink.

Welcome to JustAnswer.com! My name is***** and I have been a licensed veterinarian for 10 years. I would be happy to answer your question. It looks like your cats have an upper respiratory infection caused by a virus. These can develop into secondary bacterial infection that can cause thick nasal and ocular discharge. Since Taz cannot smell his food well because of the nasal discharge, he is reluctant to eat. How long ago did he get the antibiotic injection? It's possible he needs another kind of antibiotic. As for the others, they do not need antibiotics if they are only sneezing but don't have any nasal or ocular discharge, and they are still eating and drinking. I would ask your vet about a different antibiotic for Taz and supportive treatment until he clears the infection and starts eating on his own. Some of those treatments would be nose drops (over-the-counter Afrin - 1 drop in each nostril every 12 hours), warming up his food so he can smell it, an appetite stimulant, and fluid therapy.
