OK ....He is12 13 yrs old Has kidney disease and a growth in his throat. Been to the vet 3 times lately treating kidneys and xrs. He's been home for a month and seems to have lost 3 lbs in last week. Sounds like he can't breath when he purrs. Coughs a lot. but he sleeps ok. He's depressed and scared, I'm sure. What are our options now? Our Doctor has been evasive up to now.....I need honest, hard, advice what's next. My wife can't stop crying.... Thanks, Dr.Customer

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What sort of animal are we talking about?

Welcome to JustAnswer.com! My name is***** and I have been a licensed veterinarian for 10 years. I would be happy to answer your question. I'm so sorry to hear that your cat is sick. I am suspicious that the growth in his throat is cancerous. If your vet is evasive, I would take him to a veterinary oncologist. They may recommend having a biopsy done of the growth to determine if it is cancerous, and if so, what type of cancer. Once they find that out, they can come up with a treatment plan such as chemotherapy or radiation.

Thanks... How do we find this specialist and would that be prudent at this time of life?
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
no thanks on the call. reply is fiine

You can call your regular vet or other general practice vets and ask them the contact information of a veterinary oncology hospital. I think it would be worth getting him seen for their opinion. Even if surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation are not options, they can give you advice on whether he can be kept comfortable, and how to do that.

I think that's a good plan. Good luck with him.
