Welcome to JustAnswer.com! My name is***** and I have been a licensed veterinarian for 10 years. I would be happy to answer your question. I'm sorry to hear that Bruiser is not eating. How long has it been going on, and when was lab work done? Were there any abnormalities?

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
It started about four days ago. Labs done yesterday. No abnormality. Today he ate a few kibbles and one or two bites of canned food. Otherwise, just water

Was his thyroid level checked? Any vomiting or diarrhea?

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
No diarrhea. Vomited liquid once day before yesterday after being given a mirtizipine dose. No thyroid test
Cat Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Cat Veterinarian replied 4 months ago

Ok, so common causes of inappetence in older cats includes kidney and liver disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and pain due to arthritis or dental disease. Did your vet check his teeth? If all labs were normal and thyroid was not checked, I recommend checking a thyroid level and trying some pain medication. Buprenorphine is a good medication for older cats. It comes as a liquid and can be given orally.

Vet did check teeth which are fine. Thanks I will ask about thyroid. Would that happen so rapidly?
Cat Veterinarian: Dr. Rachel, Cat Veterinarian replied 4 months ago

Cats can get thyroid nodules that cause over secretion of thyroid hormone. The nodules usually grow gradually but you can see the signs overnight.

You're welcome. I hope he feels better soon. Try giving him a 5 mg Pepcid tablet to treat any acid reflux that might be present.

Ok. Might try that.
