Hello. My name is***** am happy to help you with your question. Give me just a moment to respond and type.

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question

Yes, a 10 pound cat would take 5mg of Dextromethorphan (active ingredient in cough suppressant robitusin) every 6-8 hours as needed.

The bottle should shay how many mg per ml the liquid is. It comes in different strengths.

I would not use the DM formula. Just use the one with the only active ingredient of dextromethorphan.

However, If a cat has a chronic cough it is usually a more serious underlying issue like asthma or heart disease.

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question

Both of those can be treated with prescription medications.

Cats can also develops growths in the chest that put pressure on important structures and cause a cough.

ok thank you!

So as soon as you are able, take him into the vet to get the cause of the cough figured out. That would be best.

Heart disease, a mass in the chest, and asthma would not respond to robitussin.

Robitussin tastes really bad too. At least it does not me. It will be tough to get it in a cat.

You are very welcome.
