He has quit eating...

He has quit eating and drinks very little. He has been vomiting and is no longer mewing

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the cat eat anything unusual?

Not in the house. I went out with him on Saturday and he wandered down the street. When he came back 15 minutes later, he was very quiet and didn't even want treats.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the cat's name and age?

Peanut is 6 years old. He has always been very vocal and loving. Now he is hiding in his box

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Peanut?

He has no front claws, that is why my daughter or I go outside with him. He usually doesn't wander. He has always been very playful. Peanut makes making the bed a fun time.

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question

When did the symptoms start? Do you know if he is urinating as usual? What color are his gums? Did he have any food changes? Does he ever go outside unsupervised?

Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Thank you. Symptoms started late afternoon Saturday. He seemed to be abnormally tired. He went to sleep in the chair and didn't even wake up to go great my daughter when she came home. Usually, he is at the door before she gets out of the car. No food changes. He has on occasion ran outside when we come in and we don't block him. Three weeks ago he was gone after dark for 3 hours. He came back to front door and pushed the security door to be let in. He had a very small kangaroo rat in his mouth. We caught it and got rid of it. He hasn't been outside very much since then. Peanut will not let me see his gums...his nose us not very pink anymore though.

I can not call. Would you prefer a phone call?

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question

This sounds like something that can not be treated or diagnosed at home.

He goes outside so he may have eaten wildlife that has eaten rat poison or he could have an infection.

He could have gotten into something toxic.

He could have been hit by a car and have internal injury that you can not see by looking at him.
