Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on your cat, please?

The licking you're seeing usually indicates either oral/dental or esophageal pain, GI cramping, nausea, or gastroesophageal reflux (GERD, acid reflux, heartburn). Any stressor including moving can induce GI distress but his symptoms aren't pathognomonic (specifically indicative) of any one particular disorder. Conservative therapy would involve administering an over the counter proton pump antacid such as omeprazole (Prilosec) dosed at 0.25 to 0.5 mg per pound of body weight once daily.

Can I try a carefully measured dose for his weight because we have human omepraxole 20mg. In a treat or wet food? Could he have symptoms of diabetes as well? Since he’s overweight. I feed him blue buffalo weight mgt.

Certainly, but you don't have to be exact as omeprazole is well-tolerated. If you dose to the nearest 5 mg that will suffice. Yes, you can mix it treats/food. Diabetics are eating you out of house and home and drinking like a fish. The litterbox tends to be full of urine as well. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
