Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question

Lucky bamboo is in the Agavaceae family. There are varying species that contain unknown steroidal saponins that will cause drooling, vomiting, weakness, incoordination and dilated pupils in cats when ingested. In most cases transient ptyalism (drooling, hypersalivation) is all I see. There's no specific antidote but because the saponins are rarely life-threatening, there needn't be an antidote. Treatment, if needed, is supportive and symptomatic only in a hospital setting. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

I just watch her to see how bad her symptoms get? Take her to vet if needed?

Correct. Correct. It would be prudent to fast her for the next 6 hours should she become nauseated. Never restrict water, however. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
