Customer Question
Hi, my male, fiv...

Hi, my male, fiv + cat is been making frequent trips to litter box. little is coming out. i started him on clavimox this am, after consulting my vet, to hold him off until vet opens tomorrow at 9a. he has thrown up 4xs in last hour. i gave him 2nd dose of clamimox & i think he threw that up too. do you think i can wait to go to vet tomorrow am or does he need a vet now?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the cat eat anything unusual?

Not that i'm aware of. he's a scavenger so i do have to be diligent about items.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the cat's name and age?

Huey, i think he's 5 or 6

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Huey?

He's had urinary problems before so he is on prescription diet urinary care wet & dry food

Hi!

Dr. Paul Brazzell here

Cats almost never get urinary tract infections. Only really old cats with underlying disease

So I doubt this is a bacterial infection and the antibiotics are not going to help

Has he had problems urinating in the past?

he's FIV +. Past problems for urinating where he would go to box frequently, be very vocal (he is a vocal cat normally), but little to nothing comes out. he just goes to box frequently. i'm not sure how to answer straining. he goes in box but little to nothing comes out.

hi Dr Paul, i am not able to do phone. i've already paid $22 & seeking answer to question below. my vet said the concern is if he is blocked. he did pee about an hr ago. my main question, which interestingly disappeared the 1st time i wrote it, is "is this an emergency situation or can he be seen tomorrow am at regular vet?"
Cat Veterinarian: DocPaul, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Sorry- I didnt request the phone calle.

It is the annoying BOTS on this site!!

IF he is able to get urine out then it is NOT an emergency

IF he cannot get urinate out but is straining then it IS an emergency

Make sense?

Paul
