Customer Question
Hi :) My kitty...

Hi :) My kitty has thrown up some brown liquid. I've been giving him some Pedialyte every 1.5 hours

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did your kitten eat anything unusual?

I'm not sure. He's about 8 yrs old

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the kitten's name?

Winky :)

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about your kitten?

I gave him an oral dewormer about a few days ago.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on Winky, please?

Regretfully, his vomiting while an important symptom isn't pathognomonic (specifically indicative) of any one particular disorder. Administering Pedialyte is smart and may be all you need to do if Winky's vomiting was due to a simple dietary indiscretion. I don't believe that the oral dewormer should be incriminatory.

Good Morning, I have observed that he has vomited that brown liquid a little after I gave him some Amino Acid Solution(liquid formula). I was thinking of giving him a little plain white yogurt with a syringe orally. What do you think? I figure that the good bacteria in the yogurt will clean out whatever is bothering him
Cat Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Thank you for the addtional information. Keep in mind that many cats are lactose intolerant and so the yogurt might not be the best choice at this time. To replace "bad" bacteria with "good", a probiotic is a better choice. You can find these where pet supplies are sold. Please continue our conversation if you wish.

A probiotic? Does PetCo or PetSmart sell anything like that? He is sitting down & when he moves around he walks fine, just the throwing up that bothers me
Cat Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Yes, you can find those in "big box" pet stores. Vomiting is usually transient. Persistent vomiting can't be managed at home. A vet would need to treat with an antiemetic and determine the cause of the vomiting and treat more specifically. Hopefully, it was just a response to that amino acid solution.
