Customer Question
SHE ABOUT 13 YEARS...

SHE ABOUT 13 YEARS OLD SHE NOT EATING HER FAVOR FOOD AND DRINKS VERY LITTLE BUT LIKES TO EAT HER TREATS WHEN WE PUT IT IN FRONT OF HER.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. What is the cat's name?

MAYA

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about MAYA?

WE TOOK HER TO A VET AND THEY SAID SHE WAS DEHYDRATED, SO THEY GAVE HER SOME FLUID, AND SAID TO TAKE HER HOME AND SEE HOW SHE DOSE. SHE ATE A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT NOT VERY MUCH. BUT TREATS SHE EATS ALL THE TIME.

I am sorry to hear you are worried about Maya. If she is not eating well, and drinking little, she is probably dehydrated again. The fluid she got at the vet would only last a day or two.

Eating treats but not regular food is a sign she is not well; when cats are sick they refuse their dry food, then their canned food, then treats and table food last.

Did they do any tests to find out why she is dehydrated? The most common cause of decreased appetite and dehydration in a cat her age would be chronic kidney disease, but she could have other things: hormone imbalance, liver disease, infection, or even cancer.

you said chronic kidney disease, is there a treatment for this, if that's what it is !!
Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

There is no cure, but there are treatments: special diet, a supplement called Azodyl, giving fluids under the skin regularly (many owners learn how to do this at home), appetite stimulants.

Cat Veterinarian: Rebecca, Cat Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

We do blood tests and a urinalysis to see if a cat has chronic kidney disease.
