Have had daughter's (10-13 yr old) cat at our house since June while she stayed with friends & looked for a house. in the past 2 weeks we have been away for 2 stretches of 4 days (to help daughter move) & left Ruthie with plenty of water & food. Home since 11/25 noticed yellowish vomit, not eating, and no use of litter box. Meow seems weaker.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the cat eat anything unusual?

Not to our knowledge. She only ever ate dry food & a special treat in the evening was a small amount of wet food mixed with cosequin, which she relished & looked forward to. she has even rejected this. Before I left our house on 11/22, I noticed that she had spit a small amount of a tan colored substance-grainy-more like partially digest food.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the cat's name?

Ruthie-she may be an American bob-tail (rescue cat)

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Ruthie-she?

Ruthie seems otherwise comfortable.

Good morning!

Dr. Paul Brazzell here.

I would be happy to help you.

I am a little more concerned because she is an older cat and therefore we have to consider more and unfortunately more serious differentials.

Things like pancreatitis, metabolic diseases like low electrolytes, kidney and liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease and even cancer have to be considered (not saying she has cancer)

As much as I would like her to stay home, she needs to be examined and her blood and urine tested.

No doubt she is dehydrated and also now at risk for fatty liver disease due to her inappetance.

Are you able to get her in today?

Paul
