My kitten has had a URI for a week & is now sneezing some

Customer Question

My kitten has had a URI for a week & is now sneezing some blood. He has been on Amoxicillin to prevent infection. What does this blood mean? I called his vet, and they said to bring him in tomorrow a.m. Shouldn't he be seen sooner?
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. There are all sorts of infections your kitten can pick up. I'll have you talk to the Veterinarian who'll sort out what is wrong and help you decide what to do about it. What is the kitten's name?
Customer: Gibbs. DOB Aug. 15
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Gibbs?
Customer: He had his front feet declawed on 11/7 & is doing just fine from that. Also, he has just the sweetest personality loves our TLC.

Dr. Paul Brazzell here.

I would not be too worried.

When the nasal passages are irritated they will sometimes bleed a little.

I think that you can wait till tomorrow and in the interim you can try this.

Put the kitten in bathroom and turn the shower on hot for ten minutes.

Repeat this 2-3 times a day.

You can also buy neo-synephrine and put one drop in alternating nostrils every 12 hours.

Buy some L-lysine from a nutrition store and give 125mg twice daily with food.

If this works then I dont think that you will have to take the kitten in :)
