Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Cat Veterinarian: Dr. Peter, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

1- Is she strictly indoors?

2- How long has she had the black dots?

3- Did she get into anything or eat something out of the ordinary?

4- Does she have diarrhea?

5- Any pre existing medical conditions?

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
1. She's indoors but from June-August she lived with an indoor/outdoor cat who was kind of sketchy
2. I'm not too sure when I noticed it- maybe a few weeks
3. I haven't noticed- normally she doesn't really go for human food tho
4. The first stool I saw was soft but the rest have been normal other than the blood, she's been having a combination of bloody and regular poops since
5. No preexisting medical conditions

Friend, the blood in the stool is a sign of inflammation in the large intestines (colon). Common causes are ingestion of a foreign body, infections, IBS, parasites, etc. to name a few causes.

As far as the black dots, unfortunately, I can not determine the exact type of growth. But, they do appear like tumors in the picture. I would recommend a hands-on examination with your veterinarian. If your veterinarian determines that they are tumors I would recommend you speak to your family veterinarian about doing an FNA (fine needle aspirate); this is a very quick test where your vet will collect a sample of the cells with a needle. Requires no anesthesia, inexpensive when compared to a biopsy and can be done within minutes during an office examination. Your vet will most likely submit the sample to a lab to be evaluated under the microscope for a definitive diagnosis. The decision of benign neglect or complete surgical removal should be made based on FNA results. In the meantime, this is what you can do for the bloody stool:

1- Do not give things like Pepto Bismol or Imodium.

2- Change her diet to rice (75%) and boiled boneless chicken or ground beef (25%) until the stool is back to normal then wean her back into her regular diet.

3- Supplement with a probiotic, these are friendly bacteria that help with regularity and inflammation. You can buy this over the counter in any pet store.

4- Follow up with your family veterinarian. If cost is a concerned I would look into your local ASPCA or Shelter where they often offer veterinary services at a lower cost.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you have any follow-up questions don't hesitate to ask. If finished, please take a moment to rate my service. See you again soon!
