My cat has started drooling and he has had a couple

Customer Question
My cat has started...

My cat has started drooling and he has had a couple instances of incontinence. He also vomits frequently after eating.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did your cat eat anything unusual?

Nothing at all. And he's on royal canin moderate cal since he was a kitten

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the kitten's name?

Charlie. He's 5 now

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Charlie?

He's a ragdoll with very long hair that's susceptible to mats forming. He hates to be brushed

Hello. This is Dr. Hill. I am sorry that Charlie isn't feeling well. I need to ask a few questions in order to better help you. When did Charlie start drooling? How often does he vomit after eating? Is he vomiting up any hair balls? When you say incontinence, do you mean fecal or urinary? Lets start there.

We noticed the drooling yesterday.
He vomits on average a couple of times per week. Sometimes he can bring up hairballs but most often not.
Urinary incontinence. And only twice
Cat Veterinarian: Kelly Hill, Cat Veterinarian replied 6 months ago

okay. Thank you. So he may have two separate issues such as dental disease (cause of drooling) and hairballs (vomiting). However, because he is a male cat with a few episodes of inappropriate urination, it is very important to have him seen by your local veterinarian for a urinalysis. Male cats can develop cystitis (inflammation of the bladder) or a urinary tract infection. This can cause all of the signs you mentioned and can lead to urinary obstruction which is life threatening. Best to have a urinalysis to make sure that is not the primary issue. Once you have ruled that out, then you can address hairball issue with an oral lubricant, like Laxatone, or change his food in case this is an acquired issue with the food. Please ask any follow up questions.
