So, this could be one of several things...

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Cat Veterinarian: Dr B, Cat Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

In older patients we have to be concerned about nasal tumors.....

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Cat Veterinarian: Dr B, Cat Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

But also older patients can have relapses of herpes virus...

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Cat Veterinarian: Dr B, Cat Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

80 % of cats carry herpes and can relapse at any point in their life especially when more immune suppressed.....

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question

So, your vet should take xrays of the nasal cavity ideally with a digital dental xray unit.....

There is a small possibility also that this could be a tooth problem....

If herpes.......this takes a bit to type....

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Cat Veterinarian: Dr B, Cat Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

So for herpes, liquid azithromycin at 10 mg/kg once daily for 14 days and then every 3 days for at least 6-8 weeks

also give DMG liquid immune support from vetriscience...indefinitely.....

if alot of inflammation is present consider adding low dose of steroid if bloodwork is normal at 2.5mg Prednisolone once daily

Recheck every 2 weeks to assess progress and at 8 weeks try to discontinue one thing at a time but leave on DMG forever.....

Ask Your Own Cat Veterinary Question
Cat Veterinarian: Dr B, Cat Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

if patient improves and issue resolves I would give CVR vaccine intranasal which might cause a mild relapse but patient will be much improved over the long haul.....
