I am sorry to hear that Nini is lethargic, drooling, and has pale white gray colored gums.

I understand that she recently had a litter of kittens and carrying the litter and feeding them seemed to overtax her body's reserves.

If you can notice that her gum color is so abnormal then I am concerned for her.

If she doesn't have a nasal discharge and isn't sneezing then her difficulty exchanging oxygen is likely related to a problem in her chest or secondary to anemia (decreased numbers of red blood cells).

Problems in her chest leading to poor circulation and gum color include primary heart disease (including cardiomyopathy and heartworm), lung disease including asthma, bacterial, viral, parasitic (lungworm) or fungal infections, a mass(es) in the chest including lymphoma, heart based tumors or carcinomas, or fluid around the lungs (pleural effusion) due to a mass, bleeding, chylothorax or an infection.

Anemia can be secondary to poor red blood cell production, either due to kidney disease as the kidneys make a hormone to stimulate production or primary bone marrow disease, or immunosuppressive viruses like Feline Leukemia or Feline Immunodeficiency virus, or anemia can be due to bleeding or destruction of red cells due to a tumor, blood parasite/infection (for example mycoplasma) or autoimmune disease (body attacks its own red blood cells and destroys them).

If your girl's tongue and gum color are blue or gray, these would signify she is real trouble and this is a true emergency.

The conditions I listed above are serious and I would highly recommend that your girl see a veterinarian promptly to have an examination and further testing done based upon her examination. Nini likely needs some blood tests, radiographs of her chest to evaluate her heart and lungs to start and then further diagnostics based upon those findings. That may include testing for heartworm and lungworms, aspirating fluid for examination if there is fluid present around her lungs, or blood titers for fungal infections.

In the meantime keep her quiet so she can breathe as easily as possible.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

thank you very much, if she has nasal discharge what would i need to do
Cat Veterinarian: Dr. Kara, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

That could mean a respiratory infection, these are usually viral, so not a lot that can be done beyond supportive care.

If she felt better you could try care at home, such as feeding favorite can foods mixed into a gruel via a dosing syringe.

But if her gums are white she may be much too stressed by force feeding, she likely needs intravenous fluid support, injectable drugs to get her eating. Some viral respiratory infections can progress to deadly pneumonia (that would be my worry with her). Feline Distemper (Panleukopenia) is one virus that can be deadly. It leads to anemia, nausea, high fever, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Cats that have immunosuppressive viruses like Feline Leukemia or Feline Immunodeficiency virus tend to get much sicker and are more likely to pass away from this viral infection.

She sounds critically ill to me, I highly recommend a hands on exam.

If your regular veterinarian is beyond your means financially now your other option is to contact your local shelter or humane society and see if they run a low cost clinic or know of one in your area.
