Customer Question
Hi - my cat...

Hi - my cat is acting a bit strange so I'm trying to find out if its something to be worried about or no

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What seems to be the problem with your cat?

She is abnormally lethargic Her eyes look weird too. Its as though her eye shape is different...like the eyes are sunken in a bit and squinty She doesn't seem as alert as normal, Just lethargic and sitting in a crouched position sleeping or just dazing

Veterinarian's Assistant: Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Expert will know how to help your cat. Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about your cat?

She ate a bit this AM and drank some water, but doesnt seem to be overly interested in food. Didn't eat dinner last night Thank you

Hello, this is Dr. Linda. I hope I can help with your concerns today.

I am sorry that your cat seems to be unwell. Cats can be very secretive when it comes to most illnesses, & this often results in a delay in diagnosis. Your observations indicate that your cat may be dehydrated, & possibly running a fever, as well. It is good that she ate a small amount of food, but cats are unique in that they can not go for more than a couple of days not eating before becoming sicker. They can start to develop a problem with their liver called hepatic lipidosis even after only 3 days not eating.

I would really encourage you to have her examined by your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. She may just require some antibiotics, or she may need additional treatments such as subcutaneous fluids. It all depends on what is found at her examination. Hopefully, she will be feeling better soon.

I hope this makes sense & you find the information useful. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Thank you.
