Yes, irrigating the eye with saline would have been smart. Because eyes can "go south" in a hurry, it's best that Shiva's vet attend to Shiva at your earliest convenience. A foreign body (foxtail, e.g.) may have found its way into her eye, the cornea may have been traumatized, or perhaps you're seeing evidence of feline herpesvirus, or the bacterial infections caused by either Chlamydophila or Mycoplasma.
