Our cat, Fiona, recently had a TECA, we came home Thursday

Customer Question

Hello! Our cat, Fiona, recently had a TECA, we came home Thursday with antibiotics and Bupro for pain. Her tongue has turned completely black. No other symptoms. Just wondering if this may be a side effect of her medications. ??
JA: What confuses you?
Customer: Just the tongue discoloration...
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. How old is Fiona?
Customer: About 9.
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Fiona?
Customer: She has no other symptoms and seems to be recovering normally otherwise.

Hello, JACustomer. I have been a Veterinary Nurse for over 15 years and would be happy to help you today. I'm reviewing your question right now.

Does Fiona have any other symptoms besides chronic ear issues, such as chronic skin issues?

Has she been on any other medications?

What antibiotic is being used?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
Hello! We took Fiona in to our vet's emergency room last night. They gave her a thorough examination and determined that she's just reacting to the antibiotic given after her surgery. She only had about two doses of Clavamox remaining, so the vet recommended suspending further medication. They said that a reaction is rare, but it does happen. Fiona is feeling fine otherwise, so we'll see how it goes.Thank you for your reply.Jeff
