I have a 16yr old Hymalian who was really ill 1 week ago.

Customer Question

I have a 16yr old Hymalian who was really ill 1 week ago. Seemed to have a sinus infection. Took to vet. Not eating, they gave a shot of antibiotics, seemed to get worse. Lathargic and having diarrhea all over. Still not eating but drinking a lot. Took back to vet, they kept him all night put him on fluids. He ate some and seemed somewhat better. Took him home and now he could hardly walk. Been a week he is more chipper eating and drinking but no poop just pee. It has been since last Wednesday.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. The veterinarian will know if the cat will be able to digest that. Is there anything else important you think the veterinarian should know about the cat?
Customer: He threw up a lot today. And there were dark piles that I was unsure if they were thrown up or accidents.
JA: What is the cat's name?

They gave him a steroid as well as antibiotics and fluids, could that cause digestive extremes?

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your wee one’s situation, and wanted to help.

Again I do apologize that my colleagues could not aid you sooner, but can you tell me:

Did he originally having coughing, sneezing, eye or nasal discharge?

Any gagging, retching, lip licking, drooling or vomiting?

Can he keep water down?

Are his gums pink or pale/white? Moist or sticky?

If you press on his belly, any discomfort, tenderness, or tensing?

Is he straining like he wants to pass stool?
