Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you with your wee one today.

How old is she?

Do you mean her gums are white?

Is Grechen breathing faster or harder then usual?

Any retching, gagging, lip licking, drooling, or vomiting?

If you press on her belly, does she have any tensing, tenderness, discomfort, or pain?

Could she have eaten anything she should not have (ie bones, toys, plants, chemicals, human meds, etc)?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
she does lick her lips and no pain in her belly her tough is dry or white looking her age I do not know about three years I would guess.

Thank you,

Now you noted that Grechen has a white mouth. If you mean her gums are white, then that tells us that she may have anemia (low red blood cells) or an oxygen uptake issue (less likely if her breathing is normal). Both are very serious and anemia can be from internal bleeding, severe fleas, bone marrow issues, or trauma. So, if she has white gums, we want her seen by the local vet urgently. She may need a blood transfusion and usually if we can get the anemia under control, they will eat for us.

Any delay in having her seen and since you noted she is licking her lips (a nausea sign), we can try to reduce nausea for her. To do so, we can give an OTC antacid like Pepcid (More Info/Dose @ Afterwards, we can tempt her to eat with boiled chicken, boiled white fish, scrambled eggs, or meat baby food (as long as its garlic/onion free). Or we can feed or syringe feed Hill's A/D, Royal Canin Recovery or even canned kitten food. As well, there are also liquid diets like Clinicare Canine/Feline Liquid Diet or catsure. All of these are nutrient dense, so a little goes a long way nutrition-wise. And these could just help get some more calories in even if we can’t get a huge volume of food in. But again if her gums are white, then it is anemia triggering her signs and we'd need her seen right away.

In this situation, just in case you do wish to see an ER vet, you can check @ or

Please take care,

Dr. B.
