The tail tip should be removed to prevent it from becoming infected, however if left alone, the tip of the tail will die and eventually fall off. If you can catch him, you can take him to a vet but if you are unable to catch him, he should eventually heal just fine but the tip of the tail will become black before it falls off.

Are you able to trap him?
