Have Cat Questions? Ask a Cat Vet Online.
Hello, I'm Dr Gary. I've been practicing veterinary medicine since 2007. I look forward to helping with your questions/ concerns.
Are you asking if the kitten can get vaccinated or if you should go through post-exposure treatment?
Is the kitten acting normal?
You can still do the shots. I wouldn't really recommend it if the kitten is still alive and doing ok.
We typically recommend a 10 day quarantine for bites. If the animal is not showing any signs in 10 days, then it does not have rabies.
If the animal is dead, then we test it and potentially do the rabies treatment at that time. Rabies is incredibly rare, though, so it's not likely to be an issue here.
It's not too late. You can take the shots. I don't think they're necessary, but you can take them.
You're welcome. I hope this is the last bite!
There can be a number of signs: lethargy, neurologic signs, seizures, tremors, severe depression, coma, death. Usually we see signs within 10 days of an exposure.
Ok good. Again, rabies is incredibly rare in dogs and cats. I know it's scary, but it's not likely a true worry here in a normal acting cat.
