Customer Question

I recently took over the care of a 14 year old cat. Her owner was dying and worried about Libbie Ann, born April 24, 2002. Libbie is a sweet cat, but I have caught her peeing down my registers. Before that, I had to take up bathroom mats, etc. I have caught her peeing on my carpet in a corner. I have taken her to the vet, who ran urine tests and took a blood sample. Everything turned out ok. I keep her shut up in a large bathroom now unless I am in the adjoining room and let her in there, where I pet her. The vet told me to line my registers with foil, which I did try. I completely covered on (nearest the bathroom) and lined 3 more. At that time I saw her sit beside the covered register with her paws on it. I got Libbie July 17, got her shots, etc., use two litter boxes. Do you have any ideas? The previous owner, who I had never met until July 24,has since died. On the 24th, she was trying to tell me about Libbie, saying something about curtains and radiators. I don't know what she was trying to tell me.

Hello and thanks for trusting me to help you and Libbie today. I am a licensed veterinarian with over 30 years of experience and would be happy work with you but need a bit more information in order to better assist you if you don't mind.

Is Libbie the only cat you have?

Are the areas where she is going near windows or doors to the outside?

Is the urine sprayed on a vertical surface of the wall or register or is she leaving puddles on the horizontal surface of the floor?

Is she using the litterbox at all for urine? For stool?

Is she an anxious cat?

Was she previously an indoor only cat or was she allowed outdoors as well?

Thanks and I will respond further after you reply. There may be a slight delay while I formulate and type a thorough response or I may be offline, but if so, I will respond as soon as I am able.
