Customer Question

Hi, my cat never gets sick but earlier tonight he threw up a giant hairball (rare for him as he's a Tabby)
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did your tabby eat anything unusual?
Customer: He seemed fine after that, but then he ate some plastic (he loves eating plastic, we hide everything but he somehow finds it) and threw that up as well. Again, eh seemed fine after that. But when it came time to feed our cats, he acted somewhat hungry but wouldn't touch his food and his nose is warm and we can tell he does not feel well.
JA: What is the tabby's name and age?
Customer: We threw him a few greenies (dental treats) about an hour ago and he gobbled those up but just threw them up
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about your tabby?
Customer: His name is ***** ***** he turned 9 last month
JA: How old is Tibbs?
Customer: He's incredibly healthy, active, a tad bit overweight but we've had him on prescription metabolic (Hill's) diet for almost a year now. He eats nothing extra.

Hello. Thanks for the question.

I would try to give his stomach a rest. With hold food and water for a good 6-8 hours to try to get the vomiting to stop. Once it stops, you can give a bland diet of chicken/ rice or some canned food that may be more appealing. If he continues to vomit, I would get him seen and make sure he didn't eat a piece of plastic that got stuck. X-rays are done to rule out foreign body obstructions.

If you want to give something tonight to settle his stomach, you can pick up some Pepcid AC (Famotidine). You can give 5 mg every 12-24 hours, as needed.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi there! He's fine now :)l. I think maybe getting sick twice in a row made his stomach upset as he didn't really fully recover for a couple of days but he's completely back to normal now. Thank you!
