Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian & I would like to help you with your wee one today.

Good news, this is no risk for cats.

Grits (even dry) aren't toxic. The reason they kill ants is because they expand with water to overfill their stomachs. With a cat, they would have to eat a load of grits to cause such an issue. So, we'd expect no harm here but could just see some GI upset since this isn't a natural cat food. So, we'd just want to keep an eye on Jellybean, remove his access to any more grits, and plan to offer a light diet option for a few days if he should any stomach upset. Examples of an easily digestible diet include boiled chicken, boiled white fish, scrambled egg, or meat baby food (as long as its free from garlic or onion powder). Ideally, we want to offer this as small frequent meals to keep her stomach settled, but again this isn't likely to cause him any significant bother.

Please take care,

Dr. B.
