You're addressing a bite wound abscess in a conservative manner which, unfortunately, usually fails. These abscesses need to be widely opened, flushed with an antimicrobial solution such as chlorhexidine, debrided (devitalized tissue removed), +/- a drain installed in order to keep the wound open for a few days, and a systemic antibiotic prescribed. In most cases, my patient is anesthetized for this painful work. Applying a topical ointment can't reach under the skin where festering is occurring. I applaud your caring for Simba but well-developed bite wound abscesses such as this are best attended to by vets. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
