Customer Question

I have 2 cats. My son and daughter have emigrated ,leaving me with another 3. We are now a 5 cat household. My 6 year old male Maine coon is finding this very stressful. He has always been a shy cat, but has started to stay out more and more. He is now staying out all the time, only sneaking in very late at night to eat his food and disappear again. He used to sleep on our bed and enjoy being with us,although he has always preferred to be outside during the day. How can I encourage him to relax in our household ? I am afraid he may choose not to come home one day ?

Hello. Thanks for the question. This can be tough with this many cats. You really need to give him his own space. A cat walk or elevated perch works well. Space for him to climb that is his own.Playing with him by himself nightly can also help. Keep the other cats away and give him his own attention.Lastly, a medication called Elavil can help with stress in cats. Feliway plug ins also help a lot.I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
