Customer Question

My grandson had his female cat neutered 4 weeks ago and she is still having problems. She is bleeding from the sutures. They gave her a sedative but it is still happening? I have only had male cats neutered with no problems. Thank you

Hello and welcome, I am Dr. B and would like to help you today. I am so sorry to hear about Guya's situation. Four weeks on is very abnormal, especially when cat spay wounds are usually totally closed after a week. Therefore if she is still seeping blood, I'd be worried of a possible internal bleed, a problem with her ability to clot, or that she is immunosuppressed ( ie FIV, FeLV). Therefore, we may need her vet to check some bloods to make sure she can clot and isnt suffering with an underlying issue. Otherwise they may need to think about an ultrasound or going back in to address that bleeding and get it settled for her. Please take care,Dr. B
