My vet is out of state. Not sure what is wrong with my 3 year

Customer Question

My vet is out of state. Not sure what is wrong with my 3 year old cat. Improved last two days; now going backwards. Very hard time breathing. Can I give her oxygen from my mom's portable tank? How much?

Hello. Thanks for the question. If there is labored breathing, then oxygen would be helpful. You could use a portable tank and put some saran wrap over a cat carrier to make an oxygen hood. I usually run it at 3-5 L/min. Ultimately, I would go to a different vet in the area or an ER vet for chest x-rays. If this is pneumonia, then she'll also need some antibiotics. If it's asthma, we need to use steroids and broncho-dilators. If it's an upper respiratory infection, then we use antibiotics and nebulization treatments. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
